I'm a singer-songwriter based here in the Bay Area. I've released quite a few albums over the last two decades, the most recent three on the Little Village label. My material consists of original songs influenced by cool jazz, sophisticated pop, a dark, film noir narrative style and a looming shadow of the Great American Songbook. I generally use a four to five piece band - piano, upright bass, drums, myself on guitar and occasionally a female vocalist (I enjoy writing for the female perspective and male-female duets). I'm most at home in seated, listening rooms where I can connect… with the audience and the lyrics/storytelling can one across. A Few Reviews “Whether he’s delivering a finely crafted stanza that cuts like a lovingly sharpened shiv or cracking wise while introducing a bandmate, singer-songwriter Maurice Tani is an artist who possesses exquisite timing.” - Andrew Gilbert, Jazzscribe “Spent all yesterday afternoon listening to Maurice's All In! CD. Truly world class stuff -- material, performance, production. It reeks of the even, sure hands of folks who have been doing this shit for quite awhile.” - Joel Selvin, Pop Music Critic/Author “Maurice Tani has hit on a style that appears to have no end in sight, and his audience is in for plenty of infusive delights and maybe even a few chills. The man has poetry in him.” - Bill Bentley, Americana Highways "Maurice Tani is a songslinger working his own lane. Known for his wry-to-romantic writing, agile guitar work and expressive singing, Tani's style is a broad spectrum tincture of influences from jazz, blues and the Great American Songbook. This is storytelling. A sort of cinema for the blind, shot alternately in grainy black and white noir or vivid technicolor with a wide angle lens." - The Sound Room, Oakland Mathematically speaking: 1+0=1. But philosophically, this simple equation is elegantly stating that being (1) endures, even in the presence of nothing (the addition of 0). Existence is not a spectrum. It is binary.
